The Me I See is the Me I’ll Be!
I know I usually talk about financial freedom on this blog but I also think that financial freedom comes with personal freedom.
WOW!!! I just attended a weekly mentoring call that I belong to. Every week we have a guest speaker. Today’s guest speaker was a gentleman who overcame all odds in his life to achieve success – Doug Luffborough. Here is a partial list of things he encountered: abusive family life, cleaning homes with his mother at the age of 8, being teased by classmates because he cleaned their homes, poor grades, homelessness, a stuttering impairment, told he’d never go to college (he went to Harvard).
He did not come from a family that had a history of success. But what he did have was a mom who believed in him and taught him some basic core values - even in the midst of his oppressive youth. She taught him that life is choice. She taught him that dreams and visualization were important. She regularly said to him “The Me I See is the Me I’ll Be!”
He eloquently states how he really didn’t see how his upbringing was actually helping him when he was in the middle of it. That knowledge came later. His mom encouraged him to make good choices, his mom encouraged him to choose to be positive, his mom encouraged him to be “more” than his life was in the moment. He made mistakes all along the way. But here’s what he knows that perhaps many of us don’t: if you want something, you have to ask for it, you have to go for it. If you don’t ask, if you don’t act, you won’t get what you want. It seems common sense but when reality is staring you in the face, it is perhaps harder to see than we think.
So here’s my question to everyone who is able to view this blog…
What are you wanting that you haven’t asked for or taken action toward?
What’s stopping you?
The Me I See is the Me I’ll Be…who are you seeing?
Don’t sell yourself short! If you’ve always been a dreamer and have no problem visualizing what you want…take a step of action toward your dream. If you’re more pragmatic and live in the here and now, take a step toward dreaming and visualizing something you perhaps have not dared to do!
Life is choice. Choose the life YOU want. One step at a time. Put in a little extra every day toward your passion and one day you will be living your dream.
Here is some advice from Doug.
- Nurture your vision.
- Don’t listen to the critics…especially the one in your own mind!
- Protect your vision – not everyone needs to know about it.
- Surround yourself with like-minded people.
- Going for your dreams is a mindset shift. Go for it!
Advice from Doug’s mom:
- Continue the path that you’ve been led to…there’s a reason why you were led to this blog to read this
- Take the world by storm – it’s waiting for you
- Open the doors for the next generation to come
- Encourage others
Take some time this weekend, or whatever day you are reading this, to take a quick pulse check to see if you’re living the life you want to live. And if you’re not, what is one thing you can do to change your circumstances? Don’t try to completely rehaul your life all at once…take it one step at a time.
